Discussions on Model-Based Systems Engineering for the space industry in Adelaide

On Wednesday 26th of November, MEMKO hosted a Lunch & Learn event on the topic of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for Space, Aerospace and Defence, held at Adelaide Convention Centre, Australia.

MEMKO hosted a Lunch & Learn event in Adelaide to start the conversation around Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and its applications for space, aerospace & defence.

Held over lunch at the Gilbert Suite, the one-day event attracted over 35 attendees from across Australia and featured three keynote speakers who are skilled and experienced in the field of systems engineering and MBSE.

This included:

• Shena Howell, Program Lead for Space Systems Engineering, from Shoal Group
• Lucio Tirone, AIV leader of the SKA-LOW telescope, from The Square Kilometre Array Organisation
• Robert Ong, Regional Cyber Systems Process Consultant, from Dassault Systèmes

Additionally, Brenton Dodd from MEMKO was the MC for the event, giving an overview into MEMKO and its commitment to building the MBSE community in Australia. 

To begin the event, Shena Howell spoke on how MBSE was utilised for the SmartSat CRC Chorus project and described the lessons learnt from its outcomes.

Lucio Tirone streamed in from abroad and shared three MBSE case studies from Maritime Logistics, Naval and the Square Kilimeter Array project at SKA Obersvatory. 

Finally, Robert Ong emphasized the need for MBSE adoption as systems complexity increases and detailed how the solution allows for the building of smarter, faster and more cost effective systems through integral safety and reliability analysis. 

It was fantastic to hear the discussions raised over the interactive Q&A opportunities and see how leaders across various organisations and industries are delving into the topic of MBSE.
