MEMKO is leading eco-system development for sovereign capability on digital engineering. Building on the success of our previous industry events, our 2025 symposium will bring together users and industry partners to share knowledge and learn about advancements in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

Following the launch of the Defence Digital Engineering Strategy, the defence industry’s adoption of MBSE and the necessary tools for digital engineering has been transformative. MBSE is essential for making complex decisions during enterprise transformation, aligning policy, technology and people. Despite the disruptive nature of change, MBSE ensures informed decision-making. This year’s theme, “Embracing Change to Transform Enterprise,” focuses on managing and leveraging change effectively.

Australian Defence Force’s C4 Joint Force Model

MEMKO Symposium 2025: Dr. Andrew FlahiveSpeaker: Dr Andrew Flahive | Assistant Director, C4 Design – Australian Department of Defence

Dr Flahive joined the Australian Department of Defence in 2007 as a scientist with the Defence Science and Technology Group in Canberra, Australia. His contributions included system-of-systems design, model-based systems engineering, defence systems integration, architectures and design. Since taking up a position as a team leader within the C4 Design Directorate in ADF Headquarters in 2017 Andrew has used his scientific and technical knowledge to help Defence to understand, design and guide senior Defence decision makers to optimise Joint Force Interoperability across the ADF. The advice provided is underpinned by quality data and advanced models of the Joint Force developed by a team of specialist Model-Based Systems Engineers and subject matter experts. Andrew has a doctorate in Computer Science as well as bachelor degrees in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.

MEMKO Syposium 2025: Rick BallardSpeaker: Rick Ballard | Systems Engineer, C4 Design – Australian Department of Defence

Mr Rick Ballard is a Systems Engineer and former member of the ADF with extensive operational experience in the Maritime, Aerospace and Intelligence Domains. Rick is a subject matter expert for ADF Headquarters and provides expertise in Mission Engineering for Integrated Air and Missile Defence, Multi-Domain Strike and Undersea Warfare. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering and Diplomas in Project Management, Airborne Intelligence Analysis and Business. Rick has significant experience in Integration and Interoperability of Defence capabilities.

 

MBSE Adoption – Challenges and Opportunities

MEMKO Symposium 2025: Rob StarbuckSpeaker: Rob Starbuck | Digital Engineering Capability Lead, Nova Systems

Rob Starbuck joined Nova Systems from the RAAF in 2006. He has provided services to major maritime programs as a risk manager and systems engineer, both above and below the line. Currently, Rob leads Nova Systems’ Digital Engineering Capability. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and holds a Master of Science as well as a Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Systems Engineering).

MEMKO Symposium 2025: Braden McGrathSpeaker: Dr Braden McGrath | Digital Engineering Practice Professor, University of New South Wales

Dr McGrath is an experienced technology executive with Australian and US post-graduate qualifications and over 30 years of experience in the defence industry and startup environments. Dr Mcgrath’s management competencies are formulating and delivering strategic plans; capital raising and securing grant funding; achieving revenue, profit, and business growth; managing and commercialisation of high-profile research and development projects; and leading large and small teams of engineers and scientists.

MEMKO Symposium 2025: Dr Gan WangSpeaker: Dr. Gan Wang | Vice President System Engineering Ecosystem, Dassault Systèmes

Dr Wang is the Vice President of Systems Engineering Ecosystem at Dassault Systemes, where he leads the company’s strategy for systems engineering integration, advocates for the adoption of MBSE) and digital engineering (DE) transformations across the industry, and fosters collaboration with systems engineering communities, including industry associations and standardisation bodies.

 

CATIA Magic Future Roadmap and Cross-Domain Integration

Robert Ong

Speaker: Robert Ong | CATIA Cyber Systems Industry Process Consulting Director, Dassault Systèmes

Robert Ong commenced his career as a Borland C++Builder 6 certified trainer and consultant for Borland Together and CaliberRM, specialising in requirements engineering, software architecture with UML, object analysis and design. Subsequently, he joined No Magic as a Senior Analyst and progressed to the position of Global Director of Product Development at No Magic R&D.
