Australia – May, 2024
HDA has expanded its partnership with Dassault Systèmes through the adoption of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform to support their Australian Department of Defence contracts. Already an established prime globally, Hanwha’s Australian subsidiary is leveraging the platform’s advanced business capabilities to deliver next-generation defence projects.
The platform has already been adopted across multiple areas from mechanical and electrical design to program management, configuration and change management. Teams across multiple disciplines can seamlessly collaborate in a single digital environment and access the tools they need to simplify product development complexity.
Regional security has been a prominent area of focus in Australia in recent years, and Hanwha will play a critical role in strengthening army capabilities and fortifying relational ties between South Korea and Australia through projects LAND 8116 Protected Mobile Fires and LAND 400 Phase 3 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV).
HDA was selected as the sole source supplier for LAND 8116 in 2021, a $1 billion project which will see the Commonwealth acquire self-propelled artillery and armoured ammunition resupply vehicles to be manufactured at the Avalon Airport precinct, Victoria. This was followed by an announcement in 2023 that HDA was selected as a preferred tenderer to deliver 129 Redback IFVs as part of LAND 400 Phase 3.
The acquisitions are part of the Australian Government’s drive to modernize the Australian Army to ensure it can respond to the most demanding land challenges in the region. With the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform supporting the development, delivery and sustainment of these projects, HDA will be able to optimise product life cycle management and business processes ensuring on time and on budget delivery of projects to the Commonwealth.
“HDA have found the system to be a great support to deliver our major programs,” a HDA spokesperson said.
Hanwha’s work in Australia follows on from its overseas success, where its partnership with Dassault Systèmes has enabled them to create world-class solutions for today’s industry challenges and gain strong credibility as South Korea’s largest defence company. The extension of this relationship to Australia will create new opportunities to grow Australia’s digital engineering capabilities and drive the future of defence innovation.
Hanwha Defence Australia is a subsidiary of Hanwha Aerospace, a division of the vast Republic of Korea Fortune 500 conglomerate Hanwha Corporation. Hanwha Corporation has been operating in Australia since 2005 in areas including mining equipment, logistics and sustainable energy.
Headquartered in Melbourne, Hanwha Defence Australia was established in 2019 with an initial focus on Land Systems. The company signed a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia to supply self-propelled artillery systems under LAND 8116, a $0.9 billion to $1.3 billion project.
Hanwha Defence Australia signed acquisition and initial support contracts for LAND 400 Phase 3 with a combined value of approximately $4.5 billion dollars at the end of 2023. The contracts will enable the delivery of the Redback IFV capability to the Australian Army, Army’s largest acquisition program to date.
All Hanwha Defence Australia platforms will be manufactured at the Hanwha Armoured vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE), now under construction within the Avalon Airport precinct.https://www.hanwha-defence.com.au/
