Key Benefits

Improve Communication

Improved communication among stakeholders

Manage Complexity

Increased ability to manage system complexity by enabling a system model to be viewed from multiple perspectives and to analyse the impact of changes

Improve Product Quality

Improved product quality by providing an unambiguous and precise model of the system that can be evaluated for consistency, correctness, and completeness.

Reduce time and costs

Enhanced knowledge capture and reuse of the information by capturing information in more standardized ways and leveraging built-in abstraction mechanisms inherent in model driven approaches. This in turn can result in reduced cycle time and lower maintenance costs to modify the design.

Improve Concept Clarity

Improved ability to teach and learn systems engineering by providing a clear and unambiguous representation of the concepts.

Success Story

Learn about one company's journey in adopting CATIA Magic
Lockheed Martin logo

In many industries, including Aerospace and Defence, a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach is widely used for its reported benefits. Lockheed Martin, a global aerospace and defence company has adopted MBSE to design and develop complex systems. With Dassault Systèmes MBSE tool, CATIA Magic, Lockheed Martin is able to share and collaborate effectively among team members on complex systems designs.

The adoption of CATIA Magic enabled Lockheed Martin teams to collaborate and work on the same project at the same time, on a cloud, which was not possible before. System engineers were able to understand a system better via visual representations of complex system designs. This advantage enhanced their performance and made knowledge transfer across different teams more effective. As a result, it was possible to detect defects in early design and to bring the company a step forward to optimisation of their quality standard, Zero Defects. The adoption of MBSE tools and processes enabled the company to bring their products to market faster.

Model based systems engineering is allowing us to get to market quicker and find the defects early which saves us costs

CATIA Magic FAQs

What are the benefits of MBSE?

Model-based systems engineering (MBSE), is the formalised application of modelling to support system requirements, design, analysis, verification and validation activities beginning in the conceptual design phase and continuing throughout development and later life cycle phases.

For a simplistic explanation of MBSE, see the following video infographic: What is “Systems Engineering” ? | Elementary collection – YouTube

What are the benefits of MBSE?

Key benefits of adopting MBSE includereduced cost, increased quality and reduced risk. This is achieved by:

  • Improved communications among stakeholders
  • Increased ability to manage system complexity
  • Providing an unambiguous and precise model of the system that can be evaluated for consistency, correctness’ and completeness
  • Enhanced knowledge capture and reuse
  • Improved ability to teach and learn systems engineering by providing a clear and unambiguous representation of the concepts

Which companies are using MBSE?

The CATIA Magic client list is a who’s who across multiple industries, including, Boeing, Toyota, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Bombardier, Johnson & Johnson, Sony, Pfizer, IBM, BP, Fedex, HSBC, GE, ABB, and BAE. Customers in Australia include, Shoal, Nova, DOD, BAE, Babcock and ASC.

What's the difference between CATIA Magic and No Magic?

The software is essentially the same and has been replaced and rebranded. The modelling, simulation and plug in tools were all purchased individually in one part they are now bundled into a small number of packages. Details can found on our CATIA Magic page under the products section.

Can I still purchase the No Magic products and plugins?

The legacy products are now controlled availability. Existing customers may continue to purchase the No Magic products. New customers must purchase from the CATIA Magic portfolio.

Is CATIA Magic integrated with 3DEXPERIENCE?

Yes, CATIA Magic is integrated with the 3DEXPERIENCE Requirements Management Role. Of course CATIA Magic also integrates with other Requirement Management Tools such as Doors and Rhapsody.

What differentiates CATIA Magic from other tools?

CATIA Magic is recognised as a leading MBSE tool globally. Some of the features that differentiate it are:

  1. CATIA Magic is the most standards compliant solution in the market, eg: UML, SysML, UAF, UPDM, DoDAF and MoDAF.
  2. Advanced Search Capability allows users to quickly find answers to questions from strategy down to the lowest level of detail.
  3. High level of integration with third-party tools and data formats, eg: IBM Rational Doors, Microsoft Office, ReqIF, Simulink and more.
  4. Ability for state-of-the-art model governance, digital collaboration and track and review modifications, all housed on a web-based application with teamwork Cloud plug-in.
